Refresh your fridge!
You've probably heard it before: you open the refrigerator and a stale smell comes out of that thing... You immediately lose your appetite. Handy if you wanted a sneaky late-night snack, but usually very nasty. We explain how you can clean your refrigerator super easily.
- Turn off the refrigerator, empty it and throw away anything that has expired. Remove the racks, drawers and shelves and wash them with some washing-up liquid. Clean the inside with warm water, all-purpose cleaner and a scoop of baking soda. Dry thoroughly. You can easily remove dirt from the edges of the rubbers with a cotton swab.
- Pay extra attention to the drainage hole in the back wall. That can become full of smelly mess. So clean thoroughly, possibly using a skewer. If the refrigerator is out of place, immediately use the vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the back.
- To defrost your freezer chest or compartment, preferably choose a day when it is freezing to the point of cracking. Then the contents can be left outside without any problems. If you fill a plant sprayer with hot water and a little all-purpose cleaner and spray the walls with it, defrosting will happen quite quickly. Or keep a hairdryer next to it, then it will go faster. And you don't have to use a scraper to remove the last bits of ice.
While you're at it, another tip
Kettles become limescale-free if you pour half water and half cleaning vinegar well above the heating element. Do not let it boil, but let it soak for an hour. Then rinse thoroughly a few times. The same applies to coffee makers, except that you first allow half of the water/vinegar mix to flow through. Then wait half an hour and turn it back on. Also run through with clean water before use.
